The morning of 2 July 1950, Companies ‘B’, ‘C’, the 75mm Platoons of ‘D’ and ‘M’ Companies, two platoons of the Heavy Mortar Company and Headquarters First Battalion, minus the Ammunition and Pioneer Platoon landed at Pusan Airport. These advance elements of the 21st Infantry were commanded by Lt. Colonel Charles B. Smith, First Battalion Commander. Immediately following their landing they were placed aboard trains and rushed northward to the city of Taejon (1043-1493).”
